Transforming Lives - Keshlan Padayachee
After the disruption of the pandemic, Keshlan Padayachee decided to pursue his dream of becoming an archaeologist. He left his career in engineering to study archaeology at Cardiff University, gaining a First-Class Honours degree and winning a prestigious Clarendon Scholarship at Oxford’s Wolfson College.
Keshlan Padayachee always had a deep interest in history and archaeology. However, to due to a lack of representation in these fields, he instead focused on the sciences and pursued a career as an industrial engineer.
After the disruption of the pandemic, Keshlan decided it was now or never – and left his career in engineering to pursue a degree in archaeology at Cardiff University.
Despite having no prior experience in the humanities, Keshlan excelled in his studies. He has carried out archaeological digs and placements in Wiltshire, Denmark, Pompeii and Rome, with his discoveries from the digs in Wiltshire being showcased in an exhibition at the Salisbury Museum.
Keshlan was awarded a First-Class Honours degree and his academic success has now earned him a prestigious Clarendon Scholarship at Oxford’s Wolfson College, bringing him closer to his dream of becoming an academic in archaeology.
