Transforming Lives - Ffion Thompson
Ffion Thompson graduated from Cardiff Met with a BA (Hons) Education Studies and Early Childhood Studies. She now owns and runs a children’s role play centre which provides play opportunities for children from birth to around the development age of seven.
“I knew I wanted to work with children from a young age, but I was never sure which pathway to choose apart from knowing I wanted to work in the Early Years sector. Luckily, the degree I chose was ‘Education Studies’ with the chosen pathway of Early Childhood Studies. The degree provided me with various opportunities and experiences to enhance my Early Years knowledge and covered countless jobs and interests. This allowed me to see the opportunities available and helped me decide on what I would really want to do after I graduated.
Studying at Cardiff Met hugely enhanced my confidence through meeting new people, lecturers, individual presentations, work experience and much more. The lecturers and staff on the degree were great, they knew us all individually and I felt this really gave me the confidence I needed for when I graduated. It really felt like one big family studying at Cardiff Met!
After I graduated, I went to work in a nursery. I knew that this wasn’t the path I wanted to be on, however, I needed experience in the sector whilst I thought about how I can use my degree.
In 2018, I came up with a business idea of a Children’s Role Play Centre, as the importance of learning through play has a great impact on a child’s development.
Studying at Cardiff Met has allowed me to pursue my dreams of opening my own business giving me the confidence and boost that I needed. I have used my knowledge and understanding from my degree in the setting up of Little Dinos Role Play Centre, which provides a fun and safe environment for children to explore their imagination and be anything and everything.
I’m so proud I have opened my business. There is nothing more rewarding than watching children letting go in play.”
