Amanda Wilkinson, Director of Universities Wales, said:

“We are pleased to see today’s UCAS figures show Wales buck the UK trend with a substantial 6% increase in the number of applications to institutions in Wales. With Wales continuing to have a more pronounced demographic dip in the number of 18 year olds than the rest of the UK, these figures are a testament to the hardwork of Welsh universities.

“Universities in Wales have a distinct offer for students. Wales has, for the second year in a row, the highest student satisfaction in the UK and the highest retention rates in the UK. As a sector we will continue to build on what differentiates us, focusing on providing those who choose to study in Wales with an excellent student experience.”
