Priorities for the next UK Government to unlock Wales’ potential
Universities Wales has published a set of priorities for the next UK Government to unlock Wales’ potential. These priorities reflect the many ways the decisions by the UK Government impact Welsh universities.
10 June 2024
At the heart of the publication is a recognition of the challenges Wales faces: from climate change to the need to strengthen our economy, from technological advances to demographic change.
Universities can be at the forefront of tackling these challenges through the work they do supporting local businesses, delivering high impact research and innovation and acting as economic anchors across Wales.
To help make a difference to Wales, with universities positioned to help tackle the big challenges ahead, the next UK Government should:
- support four nations working together
- recognise that different places have different needs, skills demands and local economies
- invest in Wales by devolving replaced EU Structural funds
- take action to secure Wales’ place in the world
Our priorities – set out in ‘Building ambition: priorities for the next UK Government to unlock Wales’ potential’ – provide tangible actions that could be taken that would benefit people and places in Wales.
