This partnership fund from Global Wales provides an opportunity for higher education and further education institutions in Wales to take the first steps in developing sustainable, long-term relationships with international partners by first working together on a short-term, outcomes-driven projects of mutual interest.
Supported by funding of up to £4,000 per project, Welsh colleges and universities will work with their international partners on projects which support a number of activities including capacity building and training; joint teaching/delivery planning; or delivering workshops, symposia or events.
The 22 successful projects address themes of global interest including digital transformation; net zero, green energy and decarbonisation; creative industries and media; population health and biotechnology and materials and manufacturing (including semiconductors). The diverse nature of these projects demonstrates the depth and breadth of research activities being carried out by Welsh institutions.
Over £75,000 has been awarded in total, to be shared between nine universities and colleges and supporting projects with partners in the USA, Canada, India and Vietnam.
Tom Woodward, Assistant Director of Universities Wales, says on the funding awards:
“It is evident from the number of applications Global Wales received in this round that our colleges and universities place enormous value on international collaboration and the positive impact it has on teaching, learning, professional development and research output.
“The nature of the funding we offer allows projects to be needs-driven and flexible, meaning the projects can support whatever goal best suits the international ambitions of the institutions - be that the development of joint programmes, Transnational Education (TNE) partnerships, mobility opportunities, research and innovations, or a combination of all of these.
“We look forward to seeing the benefits, outcomes and impact that will be realised through these projects and the longer-term relationships and activity they will foster.”
