Global Wales was delighted to welcome WE-Hub (Women Entrepreneurship Hub) for a two-day visit to Wales in November. WE Hub is India’s first start-up incubator for female entrepreneurs. It seeks to support female-led start-ups and entrepreneurs from across India, and to promote Hyderabad as a destination for female business leaders nationwide.

Following successful work and agreements with T-Hub, Global Wales was excited to have the opportunity to support women entrepreneurs by building connections in this field between Telangana and Wales.

From WE Hub, our visitors included Deepthi Ravula CEO of WE Hub, Sruthi Kande, Lead Strategy WE Hub Foundation, and Tajdar Ali, Fellow, WE Hub.

On the first day of the visit, WE Hub visited NatWest Entrepreneurship Accelerator and met with ChwaraeTeg, a Cardiff-based charity focused on equality, diversity, and inclusion for women. This was followed by an entrepreneurship roundtable led by Tramshed Tech founders Louise Harris and Mark John. Participation from both inspiring female-entrepreneurs based in Wales across 3D printing, ed-tech, cyber, health-tech and fin-tech, and female entrepreneurs associated with WE-Hub provided enriching conversation.

During the visit, Global Wales  supported the signing of an MOU between WE Hub and Tramshed Tech, which aims to support the creation and execution of joint entrepreneurship programmes, increase accessibility to networks and establish a soft-landing hub for women entrepreneurs from Wales and Telangana.

The first day was concluded with a visit to Spark in Cardiff University, a social science incubation space based in the Cardiff University Innovation Campus.

The second day of WE Hub’s visit began with a discussion with the Wales Women in STEM Network, including representatives from University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the Physics Mentoring Project, to explain how education of STEM subjects is supported in further and higher education, particularly in the context of encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.

This was followed by a discussion on engagement with representatives from the schools and further education sectors in Wales to explore student mobility opportunities and WE Hub partnerships for A-level students studying STEM subjects. Joining this discussion were representatives from Taith, Cardiff High School, ColegauCymru, and NPTC Group of Colleges. 

The final meeting of the visit was led by Professor Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, founder of the National Start-Up Awards, which Universities Wales has been pleased to support over a number of years. Joining this discussion were two graduate start-ups incubated through University of South Wales Startup Stiwdio - Eegai Productions and Team Mazi – both led by female graduates from the University of South Wales.
