The delegation was made up of representatives of the State Government of Telangana, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), Kakatiya University, University of Hyderabad and Osmania University.

Prior to their visits to Welsh universities, the delegation were treated to a guided tour of Anglesey and Snowdonia to introduce them to Wales’s outstanding beauty and to better understand the culture of the country.

The trip consisted of visits to Bangor University, Aberystwyth University, Swansea University, Cardiff University, University of South Wales, and Cardiff Metropolitan University, where delegates were shown around campuses and facilities conducting world-leading research.

Delegates also met with key academics who offered mutual interest for research collaborations for the state universities and state more broadly, as well as meeting British Council Telangana Scholarship students to hear their thoughts on studying in Wales.

Members of the visiting delegation described the tour as “eye-opening” and praised the opportunities to conduct joint research and offer student and staff mobility between Wales and Telangana.

Visits to each Welsh university highlighted areas of research that matched with the offering of each university in Telangana represented; delegates identified that fields such as cyber security, biotech, circular economy chemistry, smart materials, infectious diseases and interventions were all areas of potential collaboration.

These visits provide a vital opportunity to highlight Wales and the Welsh higher education sector as a key global partner for the Indian education sector, and to facilitate building connections between institutions for future partnerships.

Delegates were extremely positive about their visit saying:

“The Welsh culture is very alike to Indian culture, the Welsh system is very friendly, welcoming and hospitable to us, and we feel our students would be very comfortable coming here.”

“This visit is a massive leap in Indian-Welsh education relations thanks to Global Wales.”

Reflecting on the visit, Harish Lokhun said

“This has been a highly successful visit both for the delegates and our university members. We would like to thank everyone across the education sector in Wales for their assistance in putting on this successful visit, and for helping platform Wales as a unique place to study in.”
