During an extended market development visit to India in Autumn 2022, the Global Wales Market Development Manager for India scoped opportunities for collaboration between the Welsh higher and further education sectors and institutions in Telangana. Global Wales engaged in discussions with various universities and organisations in Telangana, aiming to gather a range of opportunities that could prove mutually beneficial. This visit was funded in-kind by the Telangana Government.
An achievement was the partnership forged with the Research and Innovation Circle in Hyderabad (RICH), an influential facilitator operating in collaboration with the Telangana State Government. RICH's primary objective is to support relationships among diverse entities in the research and innovation sectors in Telangana. Recognising the skills gap and demand for Electric Vehicle (EV)-related expertise, Global Wales worked with RICH to identify a suitable institution that could benefit from the expertise of Welsh further education colleges.
Global Wales introduced the benefits of the programme and the potential for collaboration with a Welsh further education college based on technical expertise in Wales. This aimed to bridge the skill-gap by designing and delivering a comprehensive EV curriculum. The vision was to leverage the strengths of both partners – the academic expertise of the Welsh further education colleges and the strategic facilitation by RICH.
The Global Wales Market Development Manager facilitated discussions and explorations with RICH in alignment with their core focus areas: food and agriculture, life sciences, and sustainability. This approach ensured that the collaboration resonated with the specific needs and priorities of both regions, enhancing its impact and sustainability.
An Expression of Interest was circulated among all Welsh further education colleges. This open call invited interest from further education colleges willing to contribute their expertise to develop the EV curriculum. This approach not only facilitated engagement but also underscored the collaborative and cooperative spirit that defines Global Wales' approach.
By identifying common goals, leveraging each other's strengths, and addressing skill gaps, this collaboration showcases the potential for impactful international partnerships with multiple stakeholders.
