AWPAC (All-Wales Policing Academic Collaboration) is a collaborative network dedicated to advancing policing research across Wales. Building on the success of local partnerships between police forces and universities, AWPAC provides a more expansive arrangement, bringing together all four Welsh police forces, the offices of the four Police and Crime Commissioners, and every university in Wales. Supported by the Wales Innovation Network (WIN), AWPAC facilitates effective engagement between Welsh police forces and universities to undertake research that positively impacts communities across Wales.

Currently, AWPAC’s work is focused on increasing public confidence and trust in policing. To support this goal, three research projects have recently been funded to address such challenges.

This research symposium offers an opportunity to bring together key stakeholders to:

  • Showcase AWPAC’s collaborative approach
  • Celebrate the group’s achievements
  • Explore future activity to support with increasing public confidence and trust in policing

The event will feature keynote addresses from:

  • Sir Andy Cooke OBE, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services
  • Professor Elizabeth Stanko OBE, former Head of Evidence and Insight at the Mayor of London’s Office for Policing and Crime

Both speakers will reflect on police culture and conduct, and the critical role of collaboration between academia and policing.

Attendees will also have the chance to connect with colleagues from the four Welsh Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioners, hear from PhD researchers focused on trust and confidence in policing, and learn about available funding opportunities.
