“On behalf of Welsh universities, I would like to congratulate Eluned Morgan MS on her appointment as the First Minister of Wales.
“Wales faces considerable challenges: from climate change to the need to strengthen our economy, from technological advances to demographic change.
“But, on a more fundamental level, we also have some of the most pressing education participation challenges in recent history, risking young people missing out on the opportunities that benefitted those who came before them.
“Universities are committed to tackling these challenges. Whether it is through the work we do generating start-ups, delivering high impact research and innovation, or finding new ways to deliver education, skills and training across Wales, there is a role for our universities to work with government and help unlock Wales’ potential.
“We look forward to working with the First Minister and her colleagues to tackle the challenges we face and drive forward her ambition for a Wales in which everyone can fulfil their potential whatever their background."
